Hello everyone – it has been awhile since last we spoke. I hope you are doing well and are enjoying your summer!
Lizzy is doing well. Her hair has started to grow back, she has enjoyed restarting swim lessons, and she and big sis Treasure even went to a Moana dance camp! They had a blast. Liz and Treas also spent several hours last Saturday running their own lemonade stand to raise money for Make-A-Wish. They did a great job and raised $60!! Lori and I are very proud of both of them.
Lizzy (and her entourage) made their Radio and Television debuts last week. And it was awesome!! Lizzy also was interviewed on stage at the start of the Walk for Wishes and she and her good friend Havyn got to “cut the ribbon” to start the walk.
In case you didn’t get to listen in or tune in, here are the audio and video clips from our “Rock Star” Lizzy, along with a few pictures from the Walk. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO OUR TEAM/MAKE-A-WISH.
Lizzy (along with Lori and I) have been asked to go on local radio and television to talk about her Wish trip and to encourage people to participate in the upcoming Walk for Wishes!!
Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 8), we will be on the Terry Meiners show on 840AM WHAS Radio. We are scheduled to be LIVE at 4:35pm. If you are in or near Louisville, please tune in and listen. If you aren’t in or near Louisville, I believe you can still listen live on the iHeartRadio app on your smart phone – just search for “News Radio 840 WHAS”.
Then, next Tuesday, May 14, we will be on television on WAVE Country with Dawne Gee. We are scheduled to be LIVE between noon and 12:30p.
We are so grateful to Cassidy at Make-A-Wish for giving us this opportunity. The Make-A-Wish organization has been such a blessing to our family and we are very excited to tell others about Lizzy’s Wish trip and to encourage people to either participate in the upcoming Walk for Wishes, or donate, or both!
As a reminder, if you’d like to be part of Lizzy’s team, you can click on the link below and join us!
We are excited to walk and fundraise for this year’s Walk For Wishes.
Our sweet Lizzy recently received her wish and IT WAS AMAZING! We were treated like royalty and had the best time! You can read all about it in my previous post.
Together, we can raise money for Make-A-Wish to help grant the wishes of other children with critical illnesses.
A wish gives children renewed energy and strength, brings families closer together and unites communities. We know first-hand that all of this is true – knowing our trip was coming soon gave all of us the strength and energy to finish the last few months of treatment
These life-changing wishes are only possible because of supporters. A wish experience can truly change a child’s life, and so can we.
Have you ever had an upcoming event or vacation that you were really looking forward to? In fact, you were so looking forward to it and anticipating how awesome and incredible it would be, that you starting imagining the most perfect trip and began setting up these expectations in your mind that were actually unrealistic.
The trip happened and even though it was great, it didn’t quite live up to your expectations because you had set the bar too high and the trip just couldn’t deliver and meet those unrealistic ideas you had. Has that happened to you?
Well, guess what? That DID NOT happen to us on our Make A Wish trip to Give Kids The World Village in Orlando.
Amazing! I don’t have the words to adequately describe what a great End of Chemo Party we had yesterday. It was joy-filled exuberance and exaltation all wrapped up in a crazy blur of an afternoon that was better than we had hoped. At the end of the day, we were exhausted (I logged over 18,000 steps on my FitBit), but it was the good kind of exhaustion – the kind that’s worth it and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Of course, a party like this doesn’t happen by accident, and this one was no exception. My wife Lori was the mastermind behind the whole thing and what she put together and pulled off was nothing short of miraculous. The whole thing went off without a hitch and we loved every minute of it.
Just wanted to put a quick post out there to remind everyone about Lizzy’s End Of Chemo Party!
The party is THIS SATURDAY, April 13 from 1p-4p. The location is Watkins Preschool at Watkins Methodist Church, 9800 Westport Road, Louisville 40241.
We will have a chocolate fountain (Lizzy’s request), a bounce house, balloon animals and sno cones along with hot dogs, chips and some veggies. At approximately 2p we will have a worship time led by our son and daughter-in-law, Collier and Michaela, along with Johnny B. Good on the keys and Mr. Andy on the drums – it’s gonna be awesome!!
Quick update on Lizzy – other than her White Blood Cell count remaining low, she is doing great! We had her levels checked again today and her ANC is on the rise, but still not where it needs to be. We would be grateful for continued prayers for her ANC to rise.
Come join us as we celebrate what God has done for Lizzy and in all of our lives!!
After 9 months of treatment, multiple accesses, countless amounts of fluid flowing in and out, and being a constant reminder of the battle she was in, Lizzy’s port has successfully been removed!! She was so excited yesterday as we got ready to go to the hospital – she picked out a special shirt that was made just for her . . .
We just returned home from Cincy where we met with Lizzy’s doctor and care team to review all of the test and scan results from this past Friday. The doctor said there is no evidence of cancer anywhere in her body, and all of the organs that had the potential to be negatively affected by the chemo (heart, kidney, hearing) were all perfectly normal! SHE IS CANCER FREE!!!!!!!!
Here are the details for Lizzy’s “End of Chemo Celebration”. The event will be at Watkins Preschool, which is a ministry of Watkins United Methodist Church. This is where Lizzy was enrolled when she was first diagnosed, and it is where she will be returning in just a few weeks!
The address of the Preschool is 9800 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40241. The celebration will be from 1p-4p on Saturday, April 13. There will be a special time of praise & worship starting at 2p. We will have a bounce house, some light snacks, and a chocolate fountain! (that last one was Lizzy’s special request!).
