Snow and Scanxiety!

We had an early start to our appointment yesterday because it was the first of many “Scan” days.  For the first year of treatment, Lizzy will get “scans” every 3 months.  The scans consist of an ultrasound and an x-ray.

Scan days start early – we were supposed to be in Cincy at 6:30am.  We left the house around 5am, which, under normal circumstances, would have been just right for a 6:30am arrival.  However, when we pulled out of the driveway, this is what we saw –

URGENT Prayer needed for my friend’s daughter

Dear friends – there are so many of you who read this blog who are tremendous prayer warriors. We have seen the results of your prayers and are so grateful for them.

I am asking all you prayer warriors to join me in immediate prayer for my friend’s 9 yr old daughter.  I just got word that she has gone missing in the woods behind their home. Police and dogs are now on scene looking for her. It’s about 32 degrees right now where they live.

Please pray for a quick and safe return and please pray for strength for her Mom and Dad.

She’s “gaining” on it!

First, our family hopes each one of you had a wonderful Christmas time filled with family and friends.  Having been 1,000 miles from home in a hospital room on Thanksgiving made being at home surrounded by family that much sweeter this Christmas.  We are learning more acutely the concept of being “present” each moment of each day, because in the blink of an eye, it could all change.

3 small words – amazingly BIG impact!

Words are important.  In their simplest form, they are just letters put together in certain patterns.  Letters by themselves are relatively insignificant, but when certain letters are put together in certain patterns, words are formed.  And while on a practical level words are just strings of letters, words are so much more that.  Words carry meaning.  Words convey emotion.  Words have power.  Words have implications.  And you don’t need a lot of words for meaning, emotion, power and implications to occur.  Today, it only took 3 words for this to happen.

Roller Coaster time while we wait

We’ve had some up and down moments over the past several days while we continue to wait for news about what the doctors have decided about Breach or No Breach.  And Yes, that means we still haven’t heard anything from the doctors about a final determination.

Late Thursday night we had our first few episodes of nausea with Lizzy.  The first time it happened, Lizzy was laying in her bed and told Lori that her belly hurt.  Lori went in Lizzy’s room and laid down beside her to comfort her.  A few minutes later – here it came!  Lori jumped out of bed and rushed Lizzy to the bathroom.  There was a trail of “stuff” from the bed to the hallway to the toilet.  I don’t think Lori has moved that fast in a long time!  Sitting in front of the toilet, Lizzy looked up at Lori and said “I can’t wait to tell Treas that I threw up in the middle of the night, and this is scary”!  Always thinking about her big sis!

BIG decision looming . . .

Chemo day #2 started early – we were in Cincy by 8am this morning!  And we got to enjoy some sleet/freezing rain along with Cincy rush hour traffic.  Woohoo!

Our new home-away-from-home is the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute Pediatric Center.  The staff and providers have been absolutely outstanding and have gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable and supported.
