Once again we find ourselves on a roller coaster of a journey. We are so excited to announce that Lizzy has completed her chemo treatments!!! Her final treatment occurred yesterday – Monday, March 18 – around 1:30pm. As is tradition, when a child completes chemo, there is a BIG celebration, and yesterday was no exception!
Several staff members donned silly hats and they rolled a Big Bell mounted on a pole into the room. And the staff gave gift bags to Lizzy AND Treasure! After the staff sang the “End of Chemo” song, it was time for Lizzy to RING THE BELL. Click on the link below to see it –
She was so excited to get to ring the bell. And Lori and I were both trying to film it on our phones, which is really difficult to do when tears are filling up your eyes and streaming down your face! But we managed to get most of it. Lori has a longer version on her Facebook page if you want to see more.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to cap off the celebration by bringing Lizzy home. Her ANC count continues to act like a yo-yo. Saturday it got up to 160 (the threshold to go home is 200) so we were hopeful that Sunday would be the day. But on Sunday, it dipped to 80. Then yesterday it bounced back up to 130 so once again we were hoping maybe today (Tuesday) would be the day, but today it dipped back down to 70. So, at this point we really have no idea when she will be coming home. Today marks Day 9 of the admission. Her longest admission so far was her very first admission in Denver. That admission lasted 10 days and included the surgery to remove the tumor and her kidney. So, it is very possible that this last admission might be the longest admission of this entire journey. That is definitely NOT what we were expecting.
With that said, we never lose hope. We never lose faith. We never stop trusting in Jesus. We have seen time and time again how God has orchestrated every detail of this journey, so we trust in Him and we trust in His plan. God’s got this and that’s all there is to it.
